THE COURTNEYS - 'Silver Velvet' Video
/Vancouver's The Courtneys have unveiled the new video for "Silver Velvet", taken form their upcoming album The Courtneys II due in February on Flying Nun. A tribute to '90s Flying Nun/Matador band Bailter Space's "Splat" video, The Courtneys devised the concept before realising they'd be releasing the record with Flying Nun. They say of the video:
"At the time we made the video, we didn’t even know we’d be working with Flying Nun! We were just big fans. Ryan Dyck of Hockey Dad Records did the cinematography, and the video features cameos from our recording engineer Jordan Koop, “Curly Courtney” (Hugo Noriega), and members of our friends bands Dead Soft, B-Lines, Dead Ghosts, Woolworm, Flyin’, Nervous Operator, Needles//Pins, plus vehicle cameos from our old van “the courtneymobile”, Courtneys convertible, and Macy's van with the mushroom window, which is basically famous for appearing in most Vancouver music videos. Plus, a dog cameo from Lady Dog." Watch it below...
The Courtneys drift back to the sound of the early ’90s, drawing from strong influences including Teenage Fanclub, Pavement, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and The Clean. Courtney Loove's dreamy guitar riffs add a timeless powerpop element to the punk backbone formed by Sydney Koke's driving basslines, while drummer/lead singer Jen Twynn Payne delivers heartfelt lyrics with a powerful vocal style. These components come together through a passionate collaborative songwriting process to deliver a special blend of fuzzy “artisanal grunge”.
