London Super Comic Convention, the UK’s biggest comic dedicated event, has today announced that the force will well and truly be with comic fans when the event returns next month, as Star Wars is set to host an exclusive exhibition at the 2016 event. Fifty pieces of original artwork and rare illustrations by the franchise’s original comic illustrators, Howard Chaykin and Tom Palmer, will be on display for the very first time. Howard Chaykin brought us the first public visualisation of the Star Wars characters with his 1976 film poster, while Tom Palmer in collaboration with Howard was the artist behind the first-ever Star Wars Comic. The duo, who helped to make and shape Star Wars comic history, will also take part in an exclusive Panel at London Super Comic Convention. LSCC takes place on 20-21 February at the ExCel Centre in London. Tickets are on sale now at www.londonsupercomicconvention.com.
Fans at London Super Comic Convention will be treated to a huge selection of original art from the intergalactic space series, much of which has never before been displayed to the public. This will include a one of a kind Star Wars #1 comic cover art in its original unaltered state as the artist intended it when it was produced in December 1976, 5 months prior to the film’s release. There will also be a panel talk where Howard Chaykin and Tom Palmer will discuss their experiences and collaborating together, the first public panel talk in July 1976 at the San Diego Comic Con and how it was received, and the collective creative vision in bringing the characters to life in what is now a Global phenomenon and one of the biggest film franchises of all time.
It was in 1976 that Charley Lippincott, Head of Marketing, Advertising, and Publicity for the first Star Wars film, was desperately seeking ways to get the word out about George Lucas’ little space fantasy that movie theatre film bookers seemed to disdain. Charley, a fellow geek and comic book fan, decided to go directly to the fans, and San Diego Comic Con was a major stop. It was there that comic-book artist Howard Chaykin and story adapter Roy Thomas talked about the story and previewed some art, and Charley showed some of the first production slides, alongside the then unknown Mark Hamill.
London Super Comic Convention is proud to follow in these footsteps and bring an exclusive Star Wars exhibition, and panel talk by Howard Chaykin and Tom Palmer, to follow the recent box office smash ‘The Force Awakens’.
London Super Comic Convention is the UK’s biggest comic dedicated event attracting over 20,000 people across the weekend. This exclusive Star Wars exhibition makes an exciting addition to the event’s line-up, which boasts a host of special guests, on-stage panels, hundreds of exclusive stands, the biggest names in cosplay and more, for a weekend of sheer comic heaven.
Special Guests include Frank Cho, Humberto Ramos, Marv Wolfman, Mike Zeck, CB Cebulski ...
